Amanda Nunes' Coach Reacts to UFC 324 Return & Kayla Harrison Fight! (2026)

Is it a big deal that Amanda Nunes' comeback fight isn't the main event? Her coach, Din Thomas, doesn't think so, and here's why.

Nunes, a UFC Hall of Famer, is stepping back into the octagon to face bantamweight champion Kayla Harrison on January 24th at the T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas. However, their highly anticipated bout is slated as the co-main event for UFC 324. The headline fight? An interim lightweight title clash between Justin Gaethje and Paddy Pimblett.

Thomas, Nunes' coach, isn't fazed by this arrangement. He views the situation as a matter of perspective, stating that either fight could have easily headlined the event. He even admitted that the interim title fight taking the main event spot was more surprising. But, he understands the decision, especially considering Nunes' time away from the sport. After all, it's still two incredible title fights.

But here's where it gets controversial...

Thomas doesn't see Harrison's judo background as a defining factor in the fight. He believes Nunes will be comfortable wherever the fight goes. He doesn't even see Harrison as having a significant advantage on the ground.

And this is the part most people miss...

Thomas emphasizes that they're preparing to counter Harrison's strengths, particularly her dominant ground game. He believes that if Harrison is to win, it will be by using the same tactics that have brought her success in the past.

So, what do you think? Does it matter if Nunes' fight isn't the main event? Do you agree with Thomas' assessment of the matchup? Share your thoughts in the comments below!
