The drama ignited over a recent episode where Barlow used Affleck’s name as part of her excuse to skip a girls' trip planned by Katsanevas. During a FaceTime call, Barlow expressed her reluctance to spend time with co-star Bronwyn Newport, whom she described as a "pathological liar." She emphasized her busy lifestyle by dropping names like Affleck and his wife, Blake Lively, saying, "I have a work thing. It’s like, a big deal... I’ll be with Ben and Blake."
However, Affleck, during an interview with Access Hollywood, made it clear that he had no recollection of meeting Barlow. He questioned the validity of the claims, saying, "I don’t know what this is – an event in Salt Lake City? Like, prove somebody right or wrong?" He went on to express his concern for possibly embarrassing her, acknowledging that not everyone can remember every interaction they have.

She shared on social media that she had indeed encountered Affleck at the SXSW film festival the previous March, stating, "SXSW [for] The Accountant 2. And it was a great movie and party."
