Aprilia Warns Jorge Martin: ‘Accept Suffering’ Early in 2026 MotoGP Season | MotoGP News (2026)

Jorge Martin's MotoGP Comeback: A Painful Journey Ahead?

Aprilia's technical director issues a stark warning to their rider, Jorge Martin, ahead of the 2026 season. But is it a necessary sacrifice for success?

After a 2025 season marred by injuries, Aprilia's Fabiano Sterlacchini has advised Martin to brace for a challenging start to the upcoming MotoGP campaign. The 2024 world champion has participated in a mere six out of 20 races this year due to four significant injuries sustained before and during the season.

Consequently, Martin has had limited opportunities to familiarize himself with the RS-GP bike, achieving a best finish of fourth in Hungary, a bike that his teammates Marco Bezzecchi and Raul Fernandez have proven to be race winners on.

The Spaniard's season took another unfortunate turn in Japan, where a collision with Bezzecchi resulted in a fractured shoulder, sidelining him until the Valencia finale.

Sterlacchini acknowledges that Martin's 2026 season will be about rebuilding his performance: "He must remain composed and gradually build his performance, understanding that the initial phase may be difficult as he continues to adapt to the RS-GP."

But here's where it gets controversial: Is Sterlacchini's advice a harsh reality check or a demoralizing prediction? Should a world champion rider be expected to 'accept suffering' so early in the season?

The technical director further elaborates, "Jorge's journey has been challenging due to interruptions in his learning process. His comeback coincided with Marco's peak form, making it harder for a rider of Jorge's caliber and status to accept playing catch-up."

Sterlacchini also highlights the importance of being competitive from the first practice session, emphasizing the work done with Martin on ergonomics and bike setup at the Misano test. However, Japan's incident was a setback, leaving Sterlacchini feeling frustrated.

The focus now shifts to ensuring Martin's full recovery for 2026. Sterlacchini's advice to Martin is a reminder that success often comes with a price, and sometimes, it's a painful one.

What do you think? Is Sterlacchini's warning a necessary strategy or a potential blow to Martin's confidence? Share your thoughts in the comments!
