PGA TOUR Q-School Update: Cooper Dossey's Quest for the Top Spot
Cooper Dossey is on the cusp of securing his place in the PGA TOUR, with just 18 holes left to play. The 27-year-old is currently one shot behind the lead, having posted a 64 in the third round at Sawgrass Country Club. This is his first attempt at earning a PGA TOUR card through Q-School.
Dossey's journey to the top has been an emotional one. After turning pro in 2021, he's been competing on the Korn Ferry Tour, with his best finish coming in July at The Ascendant presented Blue, where he placed T4. Despite his success, Dossey admits he never truly believed he could reach the PGA TOUR.
"I've always wanted to get there, and I've dreamed of it, but I never believed it was possible," he said. "I know I'm good enough, and my recent performances on the Korn Ferry Tour have proven that. But it's still challenging. Golf is hard, and the competition is fierce."
Dossey's life took an unexpected turn three weeks ago when he and his wife, Ashley, welcomed their son, Tucker William, into the world. This new role as a father has given him a fresh perspective on his game.
"It's been a great experience," he said with a smile. "I've gotten a lot of sleep this week! It's been a sleep vacation. It's hard, but it's beautiful hard. Watching my wife go through labor has made golf feel less important. I'm more analytical and negative on the course, but when I have them on my mind, it's easier to play well."
Dossey's emotional connection to the game has grown stronger since becoming a father. He describes himself as a very emotional golfer, experiencing both tears and anger on the course. This newfound emotional depth has helped him navigate the challenges of golf.
"Before having a kid, I struggled with identity and golf," he explained. "Now, being a dad, and watching my wife go through labor, golf has taken a back seat. But I still care and want to play well. I want to get my TOUR card tomorrow."
Dossey's Korn Ferry Tour status for 2026 is secure, but he's playing with a sense of urgency to earn a PGA TOUR card. He's determined to make his grandparents proud, as they introduced him and his brothers to the game.
"They've been with us every step of the way, sometimes overstepping," he said. "But I want to hold a card and bring it back to them. It would be pretty sweet to see them with a TOUR card."
As the final round approaches, the field is tightly contested. The top five after 72 holes will earn full status for the 2026 PGA TOUR season. Cooper Dossey is tied for third, just one shot behind the lead, and he's determined to bring a TOUR card home.
The Korn Ferry Tour bubble will determine the next 40 finishers and ties, with the top 25 and ties subject to reshuffling after the 14th event. Through the third round, 50 players are under par, and several notable names are in the mix, including Spencer Levin, Kota Kaneko, and Luke Gutschewski.
The competition is fierce, and the pressure is on for everyone involved. As the final round unfolds, the fate of these aspiring PGA TOUR players will be decided, with dreams and careers hanging in the balance.
