DIG MASENGELI VISITS MULTI-AGENCY OAB TROOPS – Ministry of Defence – Kenya (2025)

In a powerful show of support, Deputy Inspector General Gilbert Masengeli of the Administration Police Service (APS) embarked on a mission to recognize and boost the morale of the brave men and women serving in the Multi-Agency Operation Amani Boni (OAB). On October 31, 2025, he arrived at the Kenya Navy Base (KNB) Manda Bay, accompanied by Brigadier John Njeru, Commander of the Special Operations Forces Command (SOFC).

Mr. Masengeli's visit carried a crucial purpose: to assess the performance and well-being of the diverse security personnel working together under OAB in Lamu County. But here's where it gets inspiring: his mission was not just about evaluation, it was about celebrating the unsung heroes of peace.

Upon their arrival, the delegation was warmly received by Brigadier Lazarus Wafula, Commander of KNB Manda Bay. Brigadier Wafula's praise for the multi-agency security teams set the tone for the visit. He emphasized that their exceptional coordination, unwavering vigilance, and professional conduct have been the cornerstone of restoring peace and stability in Lamu County and its neighboring areas. This is a testament to the power of collaboration across agencies.

Addressing the troops, Mr. Masengeli's words were filled with admiration and assurance. He praised the joint security forces for their unwavering dedication, discipline, and unity, which have become the hallmark of their service. But this is the part that resonates: he promised that the National Police Service leadership stands firmly behind them, committed to offering unwavering support and fostering inter-agency collaboration in the relentless battle against terrorism.

"Our multi-agency security teams' unwavering dedication and sacrifices are a shining example of patriotism. Their courage in challenging times instills confidence and pride in our nation. Rest assured, the government is dedicated to providing comprehensive support to sustain peace, protect our citizens, and establish enduring stability in this region," Mr. Masengeli passionately declared.

Brigadier Njeru, Commander SOFC, echoed these sentiments, commending the troops for their resilience and courage in the face of adversity. He attributed the success of Operation Amani Boni to their vigilance and inter-agency cooperation, emphasizing the security forces' unwavering dedication to maintaining peace and securing the Boni area and its surroundings.

Major Gregory Scott, the United States Defence Attaché, added an international perspective, praising the enduring Kenya-US partnership. He highlighted how joint efforts in training, intelligence sharing, and logistical support have significantly bolstered both countries' counter-terrorism capabilities and regional security. This collaboration is a powerful example of global cooperation.

The visit offered a unique opportunity for the delegation to connect with the frontline officers and gain a firsthand understanding of the security landscape in Lamu County. Their focus on counter-terrorism operations within the Boni Forest is crucial, as Operation Amani Boni strives to restore security, reclaim previously inaccessible territories, and enable the safe homecoming of displaced residents. These efforts are pivotal in rebuilding normalcy and fostering socio-economic growth in the region.

But here's where it gets controversial: While the visit celebrated the achievements of the security forces, it also shed light on the ongoing challenges in the region. The question remains: how can we ensure that the progress made through Operation Amani Boni is sustained, and that the region remains peaceful and stable in the long term? What strategies should be implemented to address the root causes of instability and foster lasting peace? Share your thoughts below, and let's engage in a constructive dialogue on this critical issue.
