Attention, East of England commuters! Your weekend travel plans might be disrupted due to essential Network Rail works. Here's the lowdown on what to expect:
Starting Saturday, a significant portion of the railway south of Peterborough will be closed for a much-needed signaling upgrade. This isn't just any upgrade; it's part of the ambitious £1.4 billion East Coast Digital Programme (ECDP), aiming to revolutionize your journey. Imagine greener, safer, and more reliable trips!
London North Eastern Railway (LNER) will step in with rail replacement coaches between Peterborough and Bedford, allowing you to connect to London St Pancras services. But that's not all.
Other works will be happening simultaneously, including track renewal at Letchworth Garden City, rerailing at Welwyn and Wymondley, and drainage improvements at Stevenage. This means no Grand Central services and adjusted schedules for Hull Trains.
Additionally, Thameslink and Great Northern trains will have limited operations between Potters Bar and Peterborough/Royston, or between Hertford North and Stevenage. Before 09:40 BST on Sunday, buses will temporarily replace trains between Finsbury Park and Stevenage via Hertford North.
Ricky Barsby, Network Rail's head of access integration for the ECDP, explains, "These works, including further testing, are crucial steps in preparing for the introduction of digital in-cab signaling on the East Coast Main Line. We're also using this opportunity to tackle essential maintenance at other East Coast locations during the same weekend."
